It has been illegal to hunt white-coat (baby) seals since the 1980s. Seals aren't threatened, not endangered (the herd off the east coast of canada has tripled in size since the 1970s). The meat is eaten and the skins used to keep people warm in a harsh climate. A vast majority of the seals are killed as humanely as possible.

Why is this something to be miserable about?
